Cassia Obovata: All natural, strengthening, and conditioning hair treatment

Dreaming of beautiful, conditioned, and strong hair without a laundry list of chemicals to follow? Look no further than cassia obovata! A cousin to the popular henna plant, cassia obovata can be used as a natural treatment resulting in strong, conditioned hair. It is often termed the “neutral henna” because it does not impart color on most hair types. Individuals who have dark hair typically will not notice any change in their hair color. However, individuals who have gray or light blonde hair may notice gold tones in their hair after using the cassia treatment.
My hair could be described as “mousy” with bleached highlights mixed throughout and I did not notice a significant difference in my hair color. Some of the artificial highlights did appear a bit more brassy but it was not an extreme change. However, I did notice a major improvement in my hair texture after using the cassia treatment; my hair felt thicker and softer!
This is an awesome product to use on a monthly basis since it is an all natural product. You don’t have to worry about any added fillers or chemicals if you purchase 100% cassia obovata. It’s not overly expensive either…it could cost you less than $5.00 depending on your hair length and thickness. So, how do you get started?
PURCHASE 100% CASSIA OBOVATA
When you purchase your cassia make sure you buy 100% cassia obovata. Avoid products that have anything else added in. I have not tried a lot of different products, but I don’t think there is going to be any major differences in their quality (as long as there are no added ingredients).
ADD CASSIA POWDER TO A GLASS BOWL/JAR
Measure out enough cassia powder according to your hair length and thickness. According to hennablogspot.com, the following is how much powder to use depending on your hair length:
100 grams: shoulder length
200-250 grams: bra strap length
300-350 grams: hip length
My hair is about shoulder length and I used 70 grams. It was not enough to coat every single strand of hair but it covered most of my hair.

MIX IN WARM WATER
Add a little warm water at a time until you get the consistency of pancake batter or yogurt. Be sure to avoid using metal utensils to stir the mixture together-use either a wooden or plastic utensil.

APPLY TO HAIR
Some people will let the mixture sit in a closed container for 10-12 hours if they desire a slight gold hue after the treatment. If you do not want this you can simply use the mixture right after making it.
CAUTION!
This is messy business! Be sure to line your floors and cabinets with newspaper or some old towels (I used an old table cloth). This will make clean up much easier.
Applying the treatment to your hair is pretty messy, so it’s best to section off your hair and focus on one section at a time. When you are done you will look like a swamp lady so be sure you don’t have any plans for the next one to three hours. But do take a picture of yourself and all your swamp glory. 😉

RINSE, RINSE, RINSE. CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION
The package said to leave the treatment on for up to 3 hours, but I was tired of having it on after about and hour and half. Rinsing out the treatment is also really messy so be careful where you are swinging your hair around. Rinse your hair until the water is mostly clear and then start working in some conditioner. I don’t recommend using your high dollar conditioner for this because it usually takes quite a few pumps of conditioner to get all the treatment out.
FLAUNT YOUR STRONG LOCKS
Enjoy your conditioned and strong hair knowing you used a chemical free a product that is all natural! You can do this treatment once a month to maintain results.
